Conditions before Cell-Based Gene Therapy for Premature Ovarian Failure

Mrs. Cen is a 26 years old patient from China. She is a lovely lady and always wanted to have a child. Mrs. Cen married when she was 22 years old and tried to conceive a child ever since.  Mrs. Cen experienced her first menstruation when she was 15 years old. Although her menstruation was normal for the following few years, she started to have irregular menstruation later and eventually developed into amenorrhea. Mrs. Cen was later relied on artificial menstrual cycle for regular menstruation.

Mrs. Cen’s type B-ultrasound test showed a rather small uterus and ovaries, and low antral follicle count. Hormone test showed follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) of 55U/L, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) of 26U/L. Her condition was later diagnosed as Premature Ovarian Failure.

Therapy and Procedure

Cell-based gene therapy (HGF and adipose-derived stem cells): Two sessions (4 IV injections for each session)

Two months after both sessions of cell-based gene therapy, review/re-check of the type B ultrasound showed enlarged uterus compared with her prior condition. Hormone test has shown decrease of FSH to 12 U/L (prior condition: 55 U/L) and improved LH of 75 U/L (prior condition: 26 U/L).

A month later, Mrs. Cen’s follow-up indicated she has started to have regular menstruations.
Six months after her discharge, Mrs. Cen was informed to be pregnant with one baby via the ultrasound examination.
