1.Motor neuron disease: amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS);
Our patient Boris who comes from Slovenia, has been suffering from degeneration of motor neurons, which was diagnosed in October 2013. His sypmtoms are muscle strength in extremities decreasing obviously than before, having muscular fremitus on his right leg, drooling and swallowing difficulty. He turned to ReLife International Medical Center for Mesenchymal Stem Cells(MSCs) Therapy and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).
Medical Condition before Stem Cell Treatment
The patient develops normally. He had normal nutrition, active position, consciousness, clear articulation, slow speech, cooperating with doctors while doing physical examinations. His lung auscultation demonstrated low breath sounds but no rhonchi or rales, no pleural rubs. His heart auscultation showed a regular rate and rhythm without souffle or pericardial friction rubs. Heart rate was 76 beats / min. No precordial bulge, normal apical pulse, normal border of cardiac dullness. His abdomen distended and was slightly tough, with no abdominal varicose veins, no tenderness, no rebound tenderness, no abdominal mass. His liver and spleen were unfelt. Murphy’s sign was negative. His kidney had no percussion pain, no shifting dullness. Peristaltic sound was normal with 5 times / min. Anogenital unchecked, double lower limbs below the knee had mild pitting edema. Physiological curvature of spine was present. Muscle strength of neck was grade V, and that of left limbs was grade IV-, and grip strength of left hand was grade IV-; Muscle strength of right limbs was grade IV, and grip strength of right hand was grade IV. Grip strength test of hands was: R：19.6 Kg、L：14.9Kg; Muscle tone of his extremities increased than before his admission, with that of left lower limb more obvious. Bilateral biceps, triceps reflexes slightly enhanced, and bilateral patellar tendon reflexes enhanced. Bilateral Achilles tendon reflexes enhanced. Bilateral Babinski sign was positive. Bilateral Hoffmann sign was positive. Bilateral palm jaw reflex was suspicious. Deep and shallow sensibility of extremities was normal, as well as topesthesia.
Stem Cell Treatment & TCM for Twenty-One Days
After admission, several medical protocols were applied, including: MSC (Mesenchymal Stem Cell) Therapy combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture, Chinese massage, Chinese herbal soup) and Supportive Treatment.
Medical Condition after Stem Cell Treatment
The patient’s muscle strength of extremities obviously improved than before, he felt no limb pain and his muscle tremors reduced remarkably. Muscle strength of neck is grade V, muscle strength of left upper limb is grade IV, muscle strength of right upper limb is grade IV+, muscle strength of lower limbs is grade IV. Grip strength of both hands is grade IV+. Grip strength test of hands was: L：16.3 Kg、R：23.6Kg; Muscle tone of his extremities increased obviously. Bilateral biceps, triceps reflexes were slightly active, and bilateral patellar tendon reflexes were normal. Bilateral Achilles tendon reflexes were normal. Bilateral Babinski sign（+-）. Bilateral Hoffmann sign was negative. Bilateral palm jaw reflex was negative. Deep and shallow sensibility of extremities was normal, as well as topesthesia.
